Happy Birthday Marc!

I told you June was full of birthdays! Last Saturday we went to daddy's fireman friend Marc's 30th Birthday Party. Daddy was supposed to be there too, but of course he had to work at the last minute. We missed him, but a blast anyway!

Wes and Dillon in the bounce house.

Nothing says "I'm 30" like a bounce house at your birthday party!

The house was really beautiful and Wes loved the pool and especially these rocks!

Happy 30th Marc!

(and congrtulations! Marc and Jennifer are having a baby too!)

Moo Juice

We started giving Wes cow's milk in the beginning of June just to get him use to the flavor. Let's just say, he wasn't much of a fan. And I couldn't decide if I was flattered or alarmed. By the middle of the month, I had decided to wean him off his mid-day nursing, so he had cow's milk and a snack instead. In protest, he decided not to take an afternoon nap for two days. But by the third day, he got the idea and though he's still not really drinking the milk, he's decided he likes the snack and has gone back to sleeping. I'm so thankful that Wes is such a mellow kid and just rolls with the punches. Hopefully he'll stay this flexible when we finish with nursing all-together!
Here is one way we can get him to drink his milk:

I haven't posted any of Wes' favorite recipes recently, so here are a few:
Tuscan White Beans - I've done this with both kale and spinach, both delicious!
Mexican Chicken - I also added onions in with the bell peppers. What's mexican food without onions...and a margarita (for mommy only, of course!)?
Sloppy Joes - I used carrots and bellpeppers and turkey instead of beef. Michael and I have been talking about having Sloppy Joes forever and since we had leftover hamburger buns the other night, I finally made them. These are delicious and Wes loved it. This recipe made enough for the three of us for dinner, plus seven servings to freeze for later. All of this plus a huge helping of nostalgia, can't beat it!

Birthday BBQ!

June is a big month for birthday's around here! Wes' Grandma Susie and her sisters all have birthday's in June, so we celebrated them all with a family BBQ!

There was, of course, lots of swimming!
Wes with his cousin Haley.

Wes and his cousin Zoie.

Wes loved riding in the whale floatie and playing with Uncle Randy!

And this fishy one too.

Happy Birthday Auntie Kathy, Auntie Sandy and Grandma Susie!

Cash and Wes loved the tissue paper.
Wes tried to eat it, but luckily, Cash likes his pacifier!

Grandma Susie and her boys!

We love you Grandma, Happy Birthday!

Happy Father's Day!

We celebrated Father's day early (on Monday actually!), even though I'm just posting these pictures now :) Sometimes is so hard to keep up to date! Wes and I knew just what we were going to get Daddy for Father's day and since he was working on Sunday we figured why make him wait!?!

Mike has been talking about getting a Keurig coffee maker for a while, so we knew he'd love it. Though I'm afraid the girls at our local Starbucks are going to miss him!
Happy Father's Day Michael! You are an amazing dad.

Go Lakers!

I know I'm a little behind on my blog posts, but last week we cheered on the Laker's in their Game 7 win against the Celtics! Since this was such an important game, we figured it deserved pizza and a seat in front of the TV. We rarely have the TV on and we never eat in front of it, so this was a real treat! Wes especially loved the pizza from Haus of Pizza, our all-time favorite, and his front row seat. Plus it was a great game to boot, thanks Kobe!

Happy Birthday Auntie Monica!

We celebrated Auntie Monica's 19th Birthday last week and guess who got a present?? Well, Monica got some presents too, but Wesley got this new rocking horse! It isn't exactly new, it was actually Monica's when she was little. But when I was little, I had a rocking horse that I rode, and rode, and rode until it actually broke! My mom says that I would climb out of my crib in the middle of the night and come down stairs to ride it. Luckily this one is staying at Grandma's house! It had been on the side of my parents house for years and then in the attic, so Grandpa spiffed it up with some new paint, new springs, and new wood handles. Wes loved it!

We brought Auntie Monica party hats, but by the end of the night Wes was not interested in posing with his on. Happy Birthday Monica, we love you!

Pool Play Date

We had a really fun play date with Jenny and Mattie and Joy and Tatum and Ty last week. We got to see the Jazayeri's new home and do some swimming. One of the many great things about Woodbridge is the kiddie pools. Perfect for these little ones!

A Few Things I Want to Remember

Wes' first year is quickly coming to a close (which I can't even believe) and I think back on this amazing year and feel so blessed by God's amazing timing! He allowed me to be this precious boy's mother and to stay home with him during this time which goes by so quickly. If I had gotten pregnant when I wanted to, I would not have had the opportunity to take a furlough from work and I would have missed out on so much.
"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. Isaiah 55:8

Wes would make this shy face all the time, especially when he was flirting with pretty girls!

Wes always has his legs crossed at the ankles. He does it when he's eating, when he's nursing and even when he's sleeping sometimes.

I think it's too cute!

This is Wes' excited face. He opens his mouth so wide!

BBQ Galore

Last Saturday we went to the Orange County BBQ Festival and competition at the Fair Grounds. There were over 60 professional BBQ teams competiting for the State Championship. It got pretty crowded, but the food was delicious!

Wes loves BBQ, but who doesn't really!?!

We tasted barbequed ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken, bacon-wrapped meatballs (my favorite!), tri-tip and beans .

I think the ribs were Wes' favorite!

A Bike Ride to Mutt's

The weather was beautiful on Thursday so we rode our bikes with Wes in the trailer down to Mutt Lynch's in Newport for lunch. Mutt's has always been one of our favorite places for lunch and we felt Wes was finally big enough to enjoy it too. Though a scene from the movie Sweet Home Alabama keep running through my mind, the one where Reese Witherspoon's character is in a bar and sees her old friend holding her baby and says, "You have a baby...in a bar." Oh well, I do have to say they have the cleanest, read: least used, highchairs of any restaurant we've been too!!

We rode from Mutts to Balboa peninsula and then took the ferry over to the island and then rode home.

We're really glad we bought this trailer, we're having a lot of fun with it!

One Small Step

On Tuesday June 8th, Wes took his first tiny step! It's definitely not walking, but it's moving forward with a little bit of balance!!

Happy Birthday Sylvie!

On Sunday June 6th, we helped Sylvie celebrate her 3rd birthday! Wes loved the dinosaur theme, especially these fun, and very shady, dino hats!
Wes is standing on his own now, and getting close to taking his first steps!

Aaron, Mattie and Jeff playing in the bubbles.

Wes tried to get in on the water balloon toss, but wasn't quite sure he liked the squishy feeling of the water balloon :)

Sylvies Stegosaurus cake made by her dad Thomas.

Happy Birthday Sylvie!!
I just want everyone to know, I actually attemped to take a picture with Wes and birthday girl Sylvie, but Wes was just about partied out and ready for a nap so it didn't happen. But I'm proud of myself for at least remembering this time!

Congratulations Grandma Susie!

Grandma Susie was selected as one of the Irvine Unified School District's Employees of the Year! They had a nice ceremony and reception for them before the school board meeting.
We are so proud of you Grandma!

Happy Birthday Cody!

We helped Cody celebrate his 2nd birthday on Tuesday!

Yum!

Playing in the ball pit with Tyler and Emma.

Wes loved Cody's huge Happy Birthday balloon!
I don't know why I can't remember to get a picture of Wes with the birthday person when we go to parties, but we had so much fun! Love you buddy!
