Woof! Woof!

Grandma Missy and Auntie Caitlin came to visit us recently and they brought with them Hope, Emma and Rachel.

Wes got lots of kisses from Hope

I couldn't tell if Wes was chasing Hope and Emma, or Hope and Emma were chasing Wes. Either way they sure had fun together! (Rachel stayed in the car because she's a little too big to play with Wes right now. In a couple of years he'll be chasing her too!)

Irvine Park Pumpkin Patch

We headed to the Irvine Park pumpkin patch last Friday with a bunch of our friends. We couldn't have asked for a better day...beautiful weather, a train ride, a pony ride and of course lots and lots of pumpkins!!

Wes and Cody

Luckily everyone found their way out :)

Cody, Slayder and Wes patiently waiting for the train's arrival.

Luke, Tyler, Cody, Wes and Slayder ready to pull out of the station.

Wes took his first pony ride too! He wasn't so sure about it at first...

...but Dolly was the perfect pony for my little guy!

We finished the day with a nice picnic lunch.
I love fall!! Remember last year's trip to Irvine Park?

Crazy Weather

We've been having some crazy weather here the last couple of weeks...really hot (in the 100's) and humid, and then cold (in the 60's) and rainy but also a day like this:
Warm, with clear blue skies and pouring down rain!

Wes loved it, especially all the dirty water coming out of the gutters :)

Sand Castles!

On Sunday October 3rd, we headed down to Corona del Mar for Newport Beach's annual Sand Castle building contest! The day was a little dreary but the weather was perfect for all the architects.

Grandpa Al and Grandma Susie (and Haley) came with us.

The builders all got their own plot of sand and had 3 1/2 hours to build. Since the grand prize is only $50, I'm thinking bragging rights must be the driving force behind all the hard work. Building a sandcastle of this size is not an easy task!

Wes loves the ocean. Here he's jumping waves with Grandma Susie.

I truly hate seaweed, so here is Wes chasing me with a big handful. Do you think Daddy had something to do with this???

This is at about the half way point. It was pretty neat to see the different construction methods.

Grandpa Al showing Wes the proper digging technique.

I think most of the day, Haley was trying to make her own sandcastle. She got lots of practice though since Wes kept knocking it down!

Mike and Wes at nearly the end of the competition. We didn't stay for the judging since it was already past naptime, but there were some pretty amazing creations! The competition is open to anyone, so maybe you'll see us building our own giant sandcastle next year :)
(In case you weren't sure, Mike did grow a mustache. It's Stache-toberfest, a firehouse tradition. I can't wait for November 1st!!)

Omaha (Sunday and Monday)

On Sunday morning we all went to church and got to listen to Aunt Michelle sing with the worship team. Then we came home and Wes helped Uncle Chris read the newspaper.

After lunch and a nap Wes sweeped up after Uncle Chris mowed the grass.

Then we headed over to the Boisseree's house to visit with Paul and Sandy and Joe and meet baby Scott, who is just 2 months old. Wes was happier to meet Delilah (the puppy) than Scott, sorry Joe!

Paul got out a whole bunch of kid friendly toys but of course Wes wanted the brooms! Are you getting a sense of this kid's obsession?

Of course Wes also loves to drive, so Paul let him climb around in this great old truck and push all the buttons. My mom went to high school with Paul and Sandy and when I was a kid and we came to Omaha during the summer we'd always spend time with the Boisseree family. It was great to remember all the fun things our families did together.

Sunday night we went to dinner at La Casa! Eating at La Casa is an absolute must while in Omaha and we never miss it! The La Casa sign is actually an Omaha landmark.

I love this picture, it reminds me of high school Spanish class when we were learning how to get a waitor's attention in a restaurant..."psst, garcon." Anyway, the food was as delicious as ever!
Monday:

Our plane didn't leave until Monday night, so Monday morning we went to the HyVee for some breakfast, or more specifically a donut! When I was a kid, my grandpa always went to the HyVee for his moring coffee and to hang out with his WWII buddies. When we were in town, we would go with him and I would always get a cake donut with sprinkles. I figured Wes needed to try one too, plus I'd been thinking about those donuts since we arrived in Omaha!

I feel like he's asking me "...and why don't we have these EVERY morning????"

This crew was just pulling up in the fire truck to do their grocery shopping as we were walking out, so we got a fun picture with them!

And then we had two nice flights home and got back to Orange County around 11:30 Monday night. We had such a fun trip, we loved seeing our family and friends! We can't wait to come visit again, and next time we'll bring Daddy with us!!

Omaha (Saturday)

On Saturday we woke up and had some breakfast together and then we all headed off to different activities. Andrea and Marissa had volleyball games and Wes and I got to go with Grandma to the family part of her reunion, the tour of Central High School.

Wes and Marissa

Here's the group of people who attended the reunion. The current principal of Central High gave a welcome speech.

All the famous people who attended Central.

Wes was ready to enroll, especially when he found out he would get his own locker!

Grandma and Wes in the gym.

Wes pumping some iron in the wrestling weight room.

This football stadium is brand new to Central HS and here Wes is contemplating a glorious career as quarterback.

Here's grandma with all the sewing machines in the Home Economics room. If you know my mom, you know how much she loves to sew and that she is a sewing instructor, so I think getting to come back to this room was one of her favorite parts of the reunion.

This is Grandma and Wes at the "Sacred C." No one walks on the "Sacred C." My mom said there were no ropes around it when she was in high school because no one would even think about stepping on it. I guess the current students need a little reminder about tradition.

I think it's pretty amazing that Central High School has been around for 150 years! I guess that's why there are so many people on the wall of fame!

It's a really beautiful school right in the heart of downtown Omaha. We had such a fun time on the tour with Grandma and seeing her and some of her old friends reminisce about the fun they had in high school. Michael and I will be reminiscing at our 40 year high school reunion in 2036!

Omaha (Thursday and Friday)

Last weekend was Grandma's 40th High School Reunion! So Wes and I went back to Omaha with her to visit family and have some fun in the midwest! (There are lots of pictures, so I'll split up the days)

Wes loves airplanes so he was in heaven in the airport, even though it was pretty early.

There was a service dog on our flight and Wes and grandma went over to say good morning! When you ask Wes what a doggie says, he says "woof woof" (though it's more of a "grunt grunt") but as soon as he saw this dog he kept saying "woof woof, woof woof, woof woof!"

Ready for take off!
We got really lucky on all of our flights, well, 3 out of 4. My mom and I bought tickets with my employee discount so we were sure to have seats and Wes was going to sit on my lap. But he can fly free on my passes as well so since there were extra seats open he got to sit in his carseat in his own seat. That one flight that he had to sit in my lap was the longest hour and a half of my life!

In the airport in Denver waiting for our connection to Omaha

I didn't get any pictures of Wes meeting his Great Aunt Michelle or cousins Andrea and Marissa (he got to meet his Great Uncle Chris when he came to California last year), we were too busy catching up! But he loved hamming it up for them and checking out all the fun things in their house!
Friday morning we checked out the garage, one of Wes' favorite parts of a house, and he found this perfect sized little chair.

And of course Wes found brooms!! Remember my post about the brooms in Carpinteria, he still loves them and would ask to go in the garage specifically to push those brooms :)

Then we headed to Bellevue University to watch Andrea play volleyball. It's been a while since I've watched a live game, and I think Wes enjoyed it too. Snacks definitely helped to keep his attention.

Wes was totally obsessed with the volleyballs and between games I tried to teach him how to pepper. He just kept running away from me, oh well, maybe next year.
After Andrea's match we went to watch Marissa's high school team play in a tournament.

Wes found this fun ball to play with and here he's getting tickled by grandma. All he wanted to do here was climb up and down the bleachers. My mom said that when Monica was little and she would come to my volleyball games, she would just sit inbetween the bleachers and play with her toys and my mom could peacefully watch my game. Not so with Wes!! After Marissa's match was over I asked her why she only played one game?? I totally missed an entire game while I was chasing my child!

Saturday, Sunday and Monday to follow soon!
