On December 1, Chrissy, Amanda, Molly and I volunteered for the second year at the Operation Christmas Child warehouse in Orange County. Packing shoe boxes for needy children around the world was always one of my favorite things to do as a child at Christmas time. I have loved packing them as an adult too, but it has been really wonderful to help send the boxes on their way. The volunteers do a 4 hour shift in the warehouse checking and packing the boxes for shipping. When we're checking the boxes, we look for any inappropriate items and replace them with small toys and add anything extra the boxes might need, like candy or toothpaste, etc. We do our best to preserve the integrity of the gifts chosen by the giver, because we know God has a purpose for each shoe box. During our orientation, they told a story that last year in a small village there weren't enough boxes for every child, so two sisters had to share one box. But inside there were two of every gift! Today, all the shoe boxes that were being packed were going to the Philippines.
